Following the great success of their magnetic therapy boots, Veredus have now introduced this innovative magnetic therapy rug.

The rug is extremely light in weight, only 1500gms for the Large size including it's zip-up storage bag. This makes it more comfortable to wear & easier to handle. Having never previously known a magnetic rug that wasn't double that weight (and we've used a lot of different makes), we liked that aspect immediately. The fabric is not flimsy however, it's a strong synthetic with millions of little perforations that allow it to breathe and prevent the build-up of heat. We found that a huge bonus; we have several static magnetic rugs, plus the pulsed electro-magnetic therapy type on the yard and up until now have not been able to use them in hot weather, particularly after the horse has worked & is already warm - which is when we most want to use it - because the horses get far too hot & itchy & end up sweating more than they were whilst working, probably pretty unpleasant for them actually.

The Veredus rug is entirely different in this respect, with the horses remaining cool & comfortable throughout the treatment session. Okay we haven't had any seriously hot weather yet but it has been 26 degrees inside our barn, which is easily warm enough to prevent us using our other magnetic rugs. Not only the fabric is responsible for this, the cut is much better than other makes too, with the sides curving upwards at the sides so that the flanks aren't covered at all, which keeps the horse much cooler.

As there aren't any magnets placed over the horses rib cage, that's a bit of a no-brainer really, but still, it hasn't been done before & is another feature we like a lot. The fittings are very good, with cross surcingles, fillet string and a very clever chest fastening which allows for a lot of adjustment for size & a good fit. The shape over the back & quarters is also good, which is essential to ensure that the magnets lie correctly & in the right places.

The entire shoulder area & up over the withers is lined with a satiny material, which is great. I'd be happy to leave it on a horse for long periods without worrying about rubbing, even on a clipped horse. The rug has a lapel around the top of the shoulders - we couldn't work out what that's for I'm afraid, but it doesn't affect the fit or function, perhaps it's just aesthetic? The instructions for washing say 30 degrees but not in a machine - we found that dunking it in the big tack-room sink or holding it under the shower or hose was actually really easy because it's so light. And the water just runs off it so it dries very quickly draped over the nearest convenient object.

It didn't really need washing but we thought we'd better try it if we were going to report our experiences with it. We do think it's quite expensive, but all Veredus products are a bit that way & we think it's worth it for the brilliant design & quality. Looking at it another way, as'cost per wear' it will work out cheaper than other rugs because we used it in all weathers, something we can't do in hot weather with other makes. So again, the initial outlay is worth it because we'll use it year-round instead of leaving it in the cupboard all summer.

Overall, we like it a lot more than the other brands we've used (only comparing it to static magnetic rugs of course), much, much nicer for the horse to wear & much easier to use & handle. We found it well-designed & can absolutely recommend it.

Small = 5'6" to 6'0".

Medium = 6'0" to 6'6". Large = 6'6 to 7'3. The sizes are a little odd looking because only the UK size rugs in 3 increments, but we measured the rugs so the above is pretty accurate. The Medium size actually measures 125cm along the spine (a little over 49) and from centre of chest to rear it measures 6' with the chest fastenings adjusted to their smallest settings.
