Using a magnet on material with poor surface conditions, applying the magnet to a ferrous surface having less than a one inch thickness or partial magnetic face contact will result is lower Pull Force values than what is stated in the listing. Additionally, all magnetic material will need to have direct contact to the ferrous surface in order to exert the total Pull Force capacity. We would also like to inform all potential buyers that Pull Force is not the same thing as Lift Capacity. For the most part, all Neodymium Rare Earth Magnets are rated in Pull Force.That value however does not directly translate to a magnets' physical lifting capacity. There are currently no conversion tables available that provide this information. However in our experience, we have found this value to be around 30% of the rated Pull Force value. Again, these values and estimates are not guarantees. All buyers should perform their own testing to validate all functionality regarding each specific application and end use before implementation of the material. Our intent here is only to provide general reference for customers unfamiliar with magnetic materials. Please also keep in mind that air gaps between the magnet face and ferrous material will greatly reduce Pull Force and Lift Capacity values.
Air gaps include physical air as well as any other non-ferrous material.
